Nicole Dela Cruz
I interned at the Leon County Sheriff's Office and the Leon County Detention Facility as an undergraduate student. In this role, I worked closely with incarcerated populations, reentry service providers, and law enforcement and developed a strong interest in exploring connections between criminal justice and social work. I joined IJRD because I wanted to learn more about social work research and how to use that research to improve services in the criminal justice system. I feel that the work we are doing in IJRD will bridge the gap many incarcerated individuals experience when trying to access needed services. Ultimately, this will result in improved well-being for individuals and their communities.
