Dumer's Fond Farewell
Farewell, Dumer
It is with great sadness that I announce that one of the key tools in my transition after prison, personal recovery, and subsequent professional success is no longer with me. Yes, my truck, "Dumer," is dead. It is for the best. He had been suffering for some time.
My truck has been with me almost from day one. Like me, my truck had been through a lot in its life. Yet, it made sure to get me through undergrad then grad school. It made sure to get me to all the various jobs, meetings, forums, group projects, and everything else that contributed to my growth. I will never forget the trips back and forth from St. Louis to Lexington, Kentucky where I began my new life.
My truck helped so many other lives by moving them and their belongings so that they could also advance in life, also.
Dumer rarely failed me. My truck taught me to be humble. We were never the youngest, prettiest, shiniest, smartest, strongest, or flashiest but my truck and I always got the job done.
I will always miss my truck but l know it is for the best. I believe my truck knew it had brought me as far as he could. It was time for me to grow on my own. Growth only possible because of my truck.
Rest in peace, sweet truck. You earned it.
Sincerely, Bill
