I am an African American and Puerto Rican born and raised in the Phoenix, Arizona area. I graduated with a degree in psychology and neuroscience from Hope College in Holland, Michigan. My undergraduate research primarily focused on epigenetic, specifically identifying gene expressions that predicted forgiving behaviors. I also have a master's in social work from National University based in California. My professional social work experience consists of case management, specifically working with adults with severe and persistent mental illnesses and partnering with them to access community and professional resources that will promote mental health stability and reduce the likelihood of psychiatric institutionalization. I have always been passionate about working with released offenders to address issues related to recidivism and I want to develop reentry programs that will effectively resolve some of these issues. My goal is to create opportunities for success for this population and to restore the relationships between the community members and those with criminal records in a way that encourages mutual respect and empathy.
