National Scientific Advisory Committee

We held our inaugural meeting with our National Scientific Advisory Committee in August 2019 to discuss the technical aspects of scientific integrity and how we can expand activities in research, capacity building, and policy outreach.

Association of State Correctional Administrators Conference

Executive Director Carrie Pettus-Davis attended the Association of State Correctional Administrators 2019 Summer Conference in Boston, where she met with correctional leaders across the country to share ideas and discuss issues of national and regional significance.

Associate Director Stephen Tripodi, and Doctoral Affiliate Maria Morrison, presented research on conducting trauma-informed groups with incarcerated men and women at the International Congress on Law and Mental Health Conference in Rome, Italy.

Transforming Criminal Justice for the 21st Century - Tallahassee Event

A spoken word event about justness, opportunity and the interaction of the criminal justice system with individuals and communities was presented to a crowd of 100 on June 27th at FSU. Carrie Pettus-Davis was joined by Lamont Carey, "Born in DC, Raised in Prison," and Bill Rone, MSW Reentry Specialist, "Formerly Incarceratedx3."

Dallas Post Master's Fellowship Training

In June 2019, our inaugural class of 16 Post-Master's Fellows had their first training together in Dallas, Texas to help them develop professionally as both clinicians and researchers. The inaugural class of Post-Master’s Fellows will work on the 5-Key Model for Reentry project, helping test an innovative re-entry intervention with incarcerated men and women as they leave prison and transition back home to their families and communities.

Alice Johnson Event

Executive Director, Carrie Pettus-Davis, and College of Social Work Dean, Jim Clark, were invited to celebrate Alice Johnson's birthday and her first year of freedom after being incarcerated for 26 years for conspiracy drug charges.

IJRD Open House Event

The College of Social Work celebrated IJRD on Thursday, April 18th at the Augustus B. Turnbull Center. A crowd of 100 was in attendance to learn more about the newest multidisciplinary research institute to find a home at FSU.

Program Director Teisha Sanders presented on the power of second chance hiring and the 5-Key Model at the National Diversity Council's 15th Annual Diversity and Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas. She joined keynote speakers President Barack Obama and award-winning actress America Ferrera for an exciting event!

Carrie Pettus-Davis and Stephen Tripodi attended the FSU's College of Social Work: Poverty in America Conference in March 2019. Dr. Pettus-Davis' talk was entitled "Achieving Economic Equality in the Criminal Justice System."
